Portrait photography is all about capturing what makes someone unique. There’s a real interest in studying a person’s natural body language—how they move, talk, and express themselves. It’s those little things that reveal who someone is in that moment. There’s also a fascination with how distinct everyone’s facial features are, from the young to the old.
In this focused, in-person workshop, you’ll learn the core skills every portrait photographer needs - perfect for beginners looking to step-up their craft or a refresher course. We’ll cover how to use artificial lighting, how to guide your subjects into flattering poses, and key tips for capturing expressive, high quality portraits. With live demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll walk away with a new outlook on how to approach photography in a different style, practical techniques, and creative inspiration you can apply right away - whether shooting friends, clients, or building your portfolio.
This workshop will feature one hour of instruction followed by two hours of assisted practice time. All cameras welcome, from pro to smart phones. Photographers are encouraged to come with a model. Space is limited to 20 people.
